Makaylas Empowering Homebirth

Makayla's birth was empowering, mindful, and so very intuitive. She took a break after pushing for four hours- and after waiting for her body to be ready her baby was born soon after!

Makayla is a first time mom and a Birth Academy client!

Read her whole story below:

“I went until 1 day before 42 weeks.

I started having little contractions at 8:30 pm but they weren’t bad so I went to sleep and woke up around 2 am- things were getting more intense but not awful.

I started timing my contractions at 2:30 am and I was just breathing and squeezing a comb through them while sitting on my birth ball.

After each contraction, I would do a little hip circle to ease the pain and get my body to rest.

I called my midwife at 3 am.

When my midwife got to my home At 4 am I was already at 8.5 cm.

They immediately started setting up the birthing pool and getting everything ready as I just continued what I was doing.

I got in the birthing pool and was at a 10 so I could start pushing. That was around 5 am. I wasn’t really feeling the urge to push yet but I was anyways because I didn’t know what that would even feel like until probably an hour later...

I really started feeling the urge to push.

I stayed in the pool for a while but wasn’t making much progress so I got out and we tried a side laying position and a laying position with my hips elevated and nothing.

Then my midwife hung a sheet from a door and had me squat while pushing and I started making progress.

By then I had been pushing for about 4 hours.

I got back into the pool and took a 2 hour break!

I finally felt like I was ready to go again.

My midwife ended up getting a kitchen chair and my husband sat on it and I sat facing him and after about 15 minutes she was out!

I couldn’t believe I actually did it!

I just stayed calm and in tune with my body and it was perfect!

It was all so worth it!!

Honestly after so long I was like I will literally push so hard to get her out I don’t even care haha.

It was such a relief and I was like holy cow I actually just did that!!!

I felt like such a strong woman, I can’t even describe how awesome I felt.”

What a beautiful story of strength and intuition! Here’s what Makayla had to say about Birth Academy:
